A seasoned and highly regarded manager of a major American bank’s main branch, Justin Anderson, has good cause to fire a female loans officer only to discover much later that she’d been secretly dating and had for years been the mistress of the bank’s Executive Vice President, Giles Stern, a married man, who exacts his revenge by demoting him to the point where he has no future with the bank and is forcibly retired during a recession.
