A young English couple meet and fall in love during WWII in Britain. He is a R.A.F. navigator whose Wellington Bomber is shot down on a mission over Holland. Soon after she finds out he is missing and presumed dead, she discovers she is pregnant. Her rather prim and proper parents are furious with her and after an argument with her mother, she leaves her home to live in a tiny cottage in Cornwall, left to her by an aunt.
