In the 1920s many changes were taking place in Britain, affecting every individual. Louisa is a feisty young woman who is content with her simple existence in London's East End until she is fired from her factory job. She then becomes the personal assistant to a wealthy, educated woman who is also a lesbian and a Suffragette. After some angry discussions they begin to accept their differences, and as a result Louisa finds herself becoming more tolerant. Louisas gradually begin to change her outlook on life as she meets many different people through Amelia, her employer, and she realises that there are many other possibilities for her future.
