It was 1865 and the War Between The States was over. More than 750,000 men, women and children were killed during the war. The names of more than half of them were unknown. Almost no records were kept of the dead and many of them were buried in the field of battle in unmarked graves. It was a sad time for the whole country. To the government’s surprise, Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. Even though the country was going through a healing period, the government continued its attack on the Indian tribes. The government had freed all of the slaves, but rounded up the different Indian tribes and forced them to live on reservations.
