In this volume, the main features of the traditional architecture in the historic city of Shiraaz are put on view. Because of the higher rainfall in Shiraaz than the cities in Kavir areas, the clay architecture in Shiraaz has not developed very much comparing to Yazd City. Still, the features such as dome-like roofs, arc, koochehes ( narrow passageways), traditional tileworks, maj-moo'ah ( a collection of main public buildings in one location), baazaar, and mosques are very well developed in Shiraaz. Shiraaz also is famous as the residence of two great Iranian poets (Sa'adi and Hafiz). In the past, home-made wine of Shiraaz was also famous. But the most important aspect of Shiraaz is its closeness to Persepolis, the Capital of the Persian Empire in 520 B.C.
