Review Sea Breezes. Book of The Month February 2017This book was 'right up my street' Born in 1945 to a Chinese father and a Welsh/English mother, the author takes us through his early childhood days. Thrust from a happy and comfortable family life into the Merchant Navy as a young galley boy, his first ship was the MV 'Crinan' He takes us on a journey of a young man setting out in life in the Merchant Navy to the far flung exotic ports of South America, India, Hong Kong, Japan and Australia etc and describes the realities of life as a young lad onboard- the fun, the realities, the squabbles and the bullies! In New Zealand, he jumps ship and, for a time, settles into a shore job and makes many friends - he even spends some time in prison. This is a great read, told in the author's own words, exposing the many tensions of life at sea back then and from his viewpoint, Highly recommended ...
