Great title matched by inventive writing, vivid characters, howling poignancy balanced by well-timed touches of humour and unpredictability. A wonderful plot, novel, pitting the dead against the alive, sprinkling a bit of Heaven-hell combination with some trans-morphing angel who threatens and creates dread while holding out the olive branch of hope and salvation and making you(rather, forcing you to) believe in God and his vengeance. Strong, evocative descriptions and a playful, puckish use of language. There is a fantastic, hallucinatory quality to the writing which won't be to everyone's taste, but which I thoroughly enjoyed.
