Marti Monroe and Sam Madison are private investigators and are hired to find the killer of a Federal Judge. The FBI is already on the case, but when they find what might be a clue, a chess game played remotely, they decide to follow up. The case takes them to Sacramento, California, to talk to another of the chess players. But, they are too late. The killer shoots him. Next, they head for West Palm Beach, Florida to talk to a third chess player. They save him, but just barely after having a run-in with the killer.The case then takes them to Las Vegas to find the fourth chess player. They find him, but the case takes a turn. What they find surprises them and leads them in a direction they never thought the case would take.
