Devil’s Canyon was once filled with black rock. There are two main theories of where the name came from. The first is because of the depth of the canyon and ancient beliefs of its proximity to hell and the second is because people used to associate the color black with evil and sorcery. Either way, people were superstitious and gave it the name Devil’s Canyon… According to one legend a monster once haunted the canyon. People would wander into the forest and simply disappear.
