It awoke him from a deep slumber at three AM.
“HHeemmm…”
The sound hit his ear drums and cut into him like an invisible knife slicing into his gut.
He could feel his pulse pounding blood around this imaginary blade sending tiny shockwaves up
and down his arms.
His breathing came in short puffs. The great darkness surrounding him amplified the gasps
to a deafening volume. He held his breath as long as he could, straining his old ears trying
to pick up anymore remnants of that voice.
