A Rose For Emily (RFE) is a Southern Gothic short story written by William Faulkner. A Rose For Emily was published in 1930. RFE tells the story of Emily Grierson and her Father who live as outcast outside of Jefferson, Mississippi. After her Father’s death Emily becomes a recluse. Emily meets Homer Barron after he moves to Jefferson. Emily and Homer begin seeing one another and there is some talk of marrying, but her family is against the marriage. Homer leaves Emily so that Emily can get rid of her cousins. Homer returns to the Grierson house after a few days and begins to see Emily again. The citizens of Jefferson do not see Emily or Homer for a long time. Emily is seen buying arsenic at a drugstore. The people of Jefferson think that she may be planning to kill herself.
