A beginning reading scheme which uses high frequency words and some rhyming words. It is suitable for a child who has not yet started reading, but can also be used for reinforcement for a child who has started reading. There are no pictures in this reading scheme. When a child learns to read a simple book that has pictures, sometimes she or he can memorise the story and repeat it from memory using the pictures as cues. Although this is not wrong, it may not be real reading. If the child uses only the text as cues to a memorised story, this is more likely to be real reading, and therefore transferable to other texts. The 'Books' in this reading scheme can therefore be read as many times as a young child wants, without creating any worries about this not helping the child with 'real' reading.
