The incident that gave rise to this story took place at Katlehong Township which is located on the outskirts of Johannesburg. A young liberal constable had just been appointed in the South African Police and his being there gave birth to this novel. He was in the right place (Katlehong Police Station) at the right time, 1989 one of the final years of the exclusive regime. He tells the story of the gunning down of an MK operative Thabo Rehlutsi and the consequent convergence of the media into Katlehong to report on the superiority of government forces over liberation armies.
