The door is cold, slick with mould and slime. As I press my hand harder against the rusting iron monolith, a bone-jarring screech disseminates outwards, sending shivers down my spine. I instantly freeze, listening for any hint of movement ahead of me, there is none. Sweat beads my brow and the colour escapes my skin, I can feel my hands trembling and, in the distance, the lonely drip...drip of a tap seizes my thoughts.
What lies before me I can hardly see for there is only darkness, darkness so vast it permeates my very soul. Pencil thin lines running away into the distance are all I can see, as if I am a hunter and they are the prey. I assume a corridor lies in front of me. My mind conjures up demons and monsters lurking around every corner, my worst fears becoming reality.
I enter.
