Numerous sources have stated that the most Victoria Crosses awarded for a single action were gained for the defence of Rorke’s Drift on 22/23 January 1879, during the Zulu War. However, my original research carried out from 1992 to 1994 for compiling The Chronological Roll of the Victoria Cross suggests that there were three prior superlatives. This is an up-to-date analysis of my findings. Information is taken from the JWB Historical Library which has been compiled over four decades.
