What's new in the second edition?I know from talking to a lot of other men and fathers that the fears around fathering are universal, but are almost never talked about openly. Please, talk about this openly. It’ll help even if it doesn’t feel like it at the time. I noticed for me that sharing vulnerability feels terrible at the time. I’ve walked away thinking, “I never want to do that again,” and later something happens where it turns out to be helpful. It helped me by putting the pain into healthy perspective, and it sometimes helps the person with whom I share the pain. There is an old African proverb, a burden shared is halved, not doubled. As I understand it, “sharing” here includes emotional and spiritual burdens. Quietly suppressing one’s loss, insecurity, fear, and the rest might appear very manly, but it doesn’t work.
