This ebook was adapted from a child labor class at Cornell University. The length is about twelve Word document pages, which is reflected in the price. This eBook looks at the Catholic contribution to child labor advocacy during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This was an important time because industrialization was spreading throughout the world. The Church contributed through official encyclicals Rerum Novarum (1891) and Quadragesimo Anno (1931) as well as through individuals’ actions and legislative proposals. The main contribution may have been the solidification of the Living Wage family model—one main breadwinner as opposed to all family members working full time—which allowed children to be educated and mature over a healthier period of time.
