Sir Maxwell Throgmorton, a disgraced High Court judge, hires Broderick Ladro, and his partner Ulla Stuart to locate a long lost medieval painting by Spanish artist Francisco Cortez, depicting the raising of Lazarus and like Zevi’s painting, rumoured to possess miraculous powers.
