In response to one reader's uncomprehending review:This story may not be about the idyllic Alaska this reader had in mind. There are no sled dogs. A novice reader may not be accustomed to follow chapters that alternate between the various perspectives and side developments that weave into the ongoing narrative. Surprisingly, a notion somehow still survives which dictates that a story must progress with linear simplicity. Sitka Song is a gritty and emotionally complex story. It can not follow Aristotle's diagram of exposition, rising action, climax, falling action and resolution. The diagram is inverted. How low the story goes makes the aesthetic and relational achievement between the main characters at once striking and believable. Not much is improved.
