This work investigates the effect of extracting oil from Chlorella vulgaris using ultra high frequencies at 20kHz, 40kHz, 60kHz, and 80kHz. The yield of oil obtained are 34%, 36%, 41%, and 45% respectively. The effect of the ultrasonic frequencies on fatty acid composition of the oil was investigated using gas chromatography (GC) and fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. Oil extracted with soxhlet using n-hexane was used as a standard, comparison of graphical data shows that sonication of Chlorella vulgaris cells at 20kHz-80kHz has no effect on the fatty acid composition of the oil.key words: Science research, Science, Chemistry, green chemistry, Energy, environmental chemistry, oil extraction, science project
