This story recounts the peasant's experience when Wenceslas arrives at the humble dwelling "right against the forest fence, by Saint Agnes Fountain."The carol was based on a historical figure, Duke Wenceslas of Bohemia, who was known for his charitable good works and adherence to the early Christian faith which was then in conflict with Paganism.
