We have all been and some still are a slave to the flesh and to the sins of the flesh, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). The years spent as a slave, are spent serving spiritually dark taskmasters or other slaves to the darkness themselves serving the darkness. The darkness is not a physical characteristic, but one of spirit. All the while we hurt the ones we care about defending a past we cannot hope to defend on our own. All the while the light is all around us and completely available to us. We are prisoners in a prison of the mind with unlocked open doors.
