Andreas was a studious boy throughout his early years, and even into old age. In 1909, at the age of eighteen his father died of cancer. A promise was made by his father to bring him to America, and his stepmother ended up fulfilling his wish. This story tells of the trials that were faced in leaving Holland. Of coming to a new country and finding work. The challenges he faced in working for the railroad. He changed his name to sound more American. In this new land he found love and built a life that has now grown into the hundreds of people.
