Detective Inspector Raymond Harper and Sergeant Elizabeth Bryant have barely met on their first day in their new positions when the desk sergeant alerts them to a 999 call that sounds like murder. Arriving at the scene, they find a ballet master not only hanging in the middle of his studio, but that there is a Point shoe stuffed in his mouth. Within 24 hours, they are splitting their team to deal with a second murder. However, as the investigations progress, the murders converge as a light is shone on the darkest side of the victim’s lives. Harper and Bryant end up linking aspects of London high society to the backstreets of old London town through a complex array of people tied together in a dark pursuit most people do not want to believe exists.
